Some Celtic fans have been left angry by the decision to remove Michael Stewart from punditry duties on BBC Scotland’s Sportscene programme.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Stewart was removed from BBC Radio Scotland commentary duties on Wednesday night and from their highlights show yesterday after a controversial appearance on Monday’s Sportsound programme.
Stewart made comments about Rangers’ handling of media matters which the broadcaster eventually apologised for on Tuesday evening, feeling that their editorial standards were not met.
The debacle has rumbled on all week and The Scottish Sun reports that the former Hearts and Hibs midfielder will also not be in place to provide coverage on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
The outspoken pundit is one of the most prominent in Scottish football and has won supporters over with his ‘call it as he sees it’ attitude and forthright views on all matters surrounding the game.
Celtic fans have been watching the situation closely and some feel he has been unfairly treated, upset that he wasn’t on last night’s Sportscene show in particular.
He’s definitely one of the more independent voices on the Scottish football scene and it would be a shame for this drama to see him removed from his prominent punditry position on a permanent basis.
These fans have taken to Twitter over the last 24 or so hours to share their thoughts on it all…
Sportscene 7pm without Michael Stewart. Disgraceful behaviour by the BBC. When the statements that Stewart made are found to be true, I hope the BBC have the balls to issue him not only a personal but public apology.

Did the exact same thing to Jim Spence, a spineless broadcaster and employer

BBC are banned from ibrox yet are apologising to them for something that doesn’t need an apology.

The producers at BBC Sportsound & Sportscene think they understand their audience. They are mistaken. They understand their audience as much as they understand Michael Stewart.

If Michael Stewart is no longer going to be on Sportscene then it’s a sad day. Him and Steven Thompson do a good job in providing unbiased punditry.
