It doesn’t seem like Anthony Ralston is ever going to be a first-choice Celtic player. The 20-year-old has made just four starts for the Hoops this season. That’s pretty low given the well documented problems we’ve had at right-back.
He failed to impress on his latest outing on Sunday and it feels like the club and the player have reached an impasse.
Ralston may be contracted until 2022 but that shouldn’t stop Celtic from moving him on if the time is right.
Still a talent
Just because he’s unlikely to make it at Celtic doesn’t make him a bad player. Ralston still has years on his side and could go on to have a successful career if he makes the right decision now.
His opportunities are likely to be even less frequent next season with Celtic sure to add reinforcements in his position. This was his big year to make a breakthrough and he just hasn’t managed it.
Celtic are likely to lose four of their six full-backs with only Ralston and Kieran Tierney contracted beyond this summer. The position is likely to see huge turnover so why shouldn’t we add Ralston to the list of those going out?
He simply doesn’t seem to have the quality to play for Celtic and needs to move on for the good of his career.
