The Hoops haven’t been helped though, by the absence of some key players due to injury. One such player, who could be on his way back soon, is winger Mikey Johnston.
Johnston has been excellent for the Hoops so far this season. He has contributed three goals and four assists in 10 games for the Hoops.
Played important role in derby win
In his last performance, his deft past set up Odsonne Edouard to give the Hoops the lead in the 2-0 win over Rangers.
Unfortunately he has not featured for the Hoops since then. He picked up a groin injury in the win at Ibrox, and has not played for the Hoops since.
That, in hindsight, has turned out to be a real blow for the Hoops. Johnston would have been a real help to the Hoops in the last two league games.
Even off the bench, his passing and goalscoring ability could have helped the Hoops turn draws and defeats perhaps into victories. That is a lot of responsibility to place on a player who is just 20. However, Johnston has stood up to every test so far.
May be back for next fixture?
The good news is that the player could be on his way back to the first-team sooner rather than later. Neil Lennon confirmed last week that the player has returned to training.
He has not been ready to make the first-team yet obviously, but perhaps that time will come in the first game after the international break, against Ross County.
Even if Johnston only makes the bench it would be a bonus for the Hoops. Celtic should have no real concerns about getting back to the top of the league table. Having Johnston back in the team would help make that task easier though.
