The run of form James Forrest is currently on has to go down as the best of his career. His goal in the 2-0 win over AIK was the fifth game in a row where the Hoops winger found the back of the net.
He is undeniably the player who makes Celtic tick. Forrest has improved his game from last season, and that is saying something, as he was named player of the year last season.
The great form Forrest has shown over the past few seasons could well be attracting interest from England. Therefore, the Hoops should reward Forrest with a new contract.
That might sound a bit odd. Especially when you consider that he only signed a new four-year deal with the club only last September.
Improved game since signing last deal
However, since then Forrest has only improved his game. He hadn’t been named as Scotland’s player of the year when he signed his contract.
Would Brendan Rodgers be interested in taking the player to Leicester in January or next summer? Quite possibly.
Just after Rodgers quit Celtic for Leicester, The Times reported that he was interested in signing the Hoops winger.
Such has been Forrest’s good form, that Rodgers may still be interested.
Clubs are taking note of Forrest’s form. Only recently The Scottish Sun reported that Zenit were interested in signing the player for £12 million.
Hoops would turn down any bids
That sum would no doubt be considered derisory by the Hoops.
However, it would not be a shock if bids came in for Forrest in January. The Hoops should put a stop to that by giving the player a wage rise and a new contract.
It is all he deserves after playing so well for Celtic. He deserves to finish his career with the Hoops with many more trophies to be won.
A new contract would ensure that the Hoops support don’t need to worry about their most important player leaving.
