Celtic winger James Forrest is out of the Hoops’ next league game against Hibernian on Sunday. Forrest was taken off in the first-half of the Europa League win against Riga, and Neil Lennon has confirmed that he will miss the Hibs game.

“He’s got bone bruising in his ankle so well have to see. It’ll have to be scanned either tomorrow or Saturday, so he’ll not make the weekend” Lennon said, as quoted by Glasgow Live.

That is obviously a blow to Celtic. Forrest might not have been at his blistering best so fat this season. However, he is always likely to chip in with a goal or an assist, so his absence will be felt.

Thankfully, an ideal replacement is available to replace Forrest in the starting line-up against the Easter Road side – Jeremie Frimpong.

Superb in win over Riga

Frimpong was superb as a replacement for Forrest in the win over Riga. He was one of the few Celtic players with pass marks after a poor display.

He was a constant threat on the ball, and created plenty of chances. In the second-half alone his balls into the box created two chances for Albian Ajeti. It was his cross that was finished by Mohamed Elyounoussi to give the Hoops the all-important breakthrough.

Will Frimpong be Forrest’s long-term replacement in the Celtic team? You would doubt that. However, when it comes to the game against Hibernian, he is the ideal player to start the game on the right-wing for the Hoops.

Confidence must be sky-high

Frimpong’s confidence must be sky-high following his performance against Riga. It has to go down as one of the best of his Celtic career so far.

It was great him not being afraid to demand the ball and run at the opposition, something which too many of his teammates didn’t do against Riga.

Whilst Forrest’s absence will be a blow, the emergence of Frimpong can make it a problem Celtic can deal with. Frimpong must start against Hibernian.

In other news, Neil Lennon was concerned that Scott Brown may have suffered an injury against Riga.
