Celtic have been careful with Odsonne Edouard’s appearances since he returned from injury.
He only played 28 minutes of the 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over St Johnstone. This is understandable as the Hoops don’t want to rush him back into the side.
However, if Celtic want a positive result against Valencia on Thursday in the Europa League then Edouard must start.
Scott Sinclair might have scored a hat-trick against St Johnstone but it would be folly to move him up-front. Oliver Burke played well in the win over St Johnstone but his finishing showed that he is not a natural forward.
The Hoops might not get many chances against Valencia on the night, which is why it is so important Edouard starts.
He is by far the best striker that’s currently at the club, as Leigh Griffiths is still absent. Edouard has already shown his class in Europe this season.
His winning goal in the 2-1 Europa League clash with RB Leipzig displayed a touch of class that few other players have at Celtic Park.
Brendan Rodgers will be under no illusions about how difficult the tie against Valencia will be. He will know that to get a good result in the first leg he needs his big players to start.
That is why Edouard must be one of the first names on the team sheet. If he is on his game, it could be another great European night at Celtic Park.
