Celtic boss Neil Lennon has a dilemma to solve at right-back for Sunday’s Glasgow derby against Rangers. Mikael Lustig is a doubt for the game after suffering an injury on international duty.

Jeremy Toljan’s form has been poor in recent weeks, and Anthony Ralston is still absent. That could mean that the Hoops manager could take a huge gamble and start forgotten man Cristian Gamboa against the Ibrox side.

Shouldn’t be a gamble

On the face of it, it shouldn’t be a gamble starting the player. He is an international after all. However, former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers never seemed to be a fan of the player.

Indeed, he has made only seven appearances for the Hoops this season, the last being in December against Motherwell.

Never really stood out

It’s not even like the player has performed that badly when playing for the Hoops, it’s just that he has never really stood out.

It looks likely that he will be moving on from Glasgow in the summer. The player’s contract expires at the end of the season.

However, he could still do the Hoops a turn before then. Should Lustig be ruled out of the derby, it seems to be a battle between Toljan and Gamboa for the right-back berth.

It would not be a bad idea to choose Gamboa. Toljan has looked poor in his last few appearances for the Hoops. Perhaps it is better to play a player who hasn’t played instead of one who is out of form,

It would certainly be a gamble by Neil Lennon. But if it helps the Hoops win the game it will have been a gamble worth taking.
