Celtic aren’t the only team who will be counting down the days until Ryan Christie, Leigh Griffiths and Kieran Tierney return. The trio are all Scottish too and have been a big part of the national team’s performance in recent years.
All three missed the end of the season with the Hoops and the recent international double header. Scotland took three points out of six under new boss Steve Clarke, with a 3-0 defeat to Belgium following a 2-1 success against Cyprus.
Clarke may already been relying on the likes of James Forrest and Callum McGregor to provide the goods for his side, but he’ll also be hoping to have a few more Celtic men in his ranks next time.
A big Celtic contingent
The good thing for both club and country is that all three are expected back at the start of pre-season. Christie and Tierney should return much fitter players following recent injuries while Griffiths may take a little bit longer to get up to speed. The 28-year-old hasn’t featured for club or country since December – when both were under different managers.
When all three return, Celtic could make up around half of the national side. The five mentioned above should all be starters for the national team while former players like Charlie Mulgrew, Stuart Armstrong and David Marshall have all been fancied by Clarke too.
Supporting Scotland might soon become like supporting Celtic. Wouldn’t that be nice.
