There is a very real chance that Sunday’s game against Hearts will be the last time we see two Celtic heroes in the Hooped jersey at Celtic Park.
The veteran duo of Mikael Lustig and Emilio Izaguirre could be saying their farewell to the Hoops support. Lustig’s contract expires at the end of the season and whilst Izaguirre has been offered a new one-year deal, he revealed recently to the Daily Record that he would like to move to America.
Right time to move on
The time is perhaps right for both players to move on. Lustig has struggled recently with injuries and poor form. Indeed, there must be a doubt that he even features against Hearts.
Izaguirre hasn’t looked like the player he once was in his second spell in the Hoops.
Won countless honours
Both players have won a huge amount of trophies with the Hoops. Lustig alone has won seven league titles.
Should this be the swansong, both players will receive massive ovations from the Hoops support. Even though their performances in recent years haven’t been as good as in the past, both players deserve to go down as modern day Celtic legends.
Every club needs to refresh and move on. It is the nature of the game. That needs to happen at Celtic as soon as possible. Therefore, it looks like time to move on some veteran players, starting with Lustig and Izaguirre.
