Celtic are in dire need of cover for Kieran Tierney at left-back. The defender has been plagued with injuries this season and when he’s been missing we haven’t looked like the same team.
His deputy Emilio Izaguirre looks past it and will likely leave the club at the end of his contract this summer. That will leave the Hoops with the need for one or even two new players in the position to take the heat off Tierney.
Thankfully there’s an obvious candidate currently playing in Scotland.
The full-back is coming to the end of a profitable loan spell at Aberdeen. He’ll return back to his parent club Derby County who are just 90 minutes away from promotion to the English Premier League.
If Frank Lampard’s men go up then it’s hard to see Lowe getting much of a game. He’s contracted until 2021 and the Rams are unlikely to want to sell him permanently.
The Daily Record reports that both Rangers and Aberdeen are keen to take Lowe on loan next season. While the 22-year-old would be likely to get more game time for those two clubs rather than Celtic, it may still be worth making an approach.
The Englishman has proven himself to be capable defending and also attacking. He has legs, real pace and a good final ball. Celtic could do a lot worse than getting him in as a quality back-up for Tierney.
