Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton isn’t holding back as usual. This time, he has some intriguing comments about the task facing the next Celtic manager.
Sutton has claimed that the rebuilding job the next manager faces is ‘massive’. He also feels that the next manager should make sure they have guarantees from the club that money will be spent.
“A massive rebuild”
“Celtic need a massive rebuild” Sutton told the Daily Record.
“I cannot for one second believe that Neil would just roll over and accept the job without being given proper assurances that the transfer fees and the wages will be there for him to make the improvements he needs to make.”
Celtic will certainly need to make a few signings in the summer. The likes of Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic will need replaced.
Doubts over players’ futures
There are also doubts surrounding the future of some key players at the club. Mikael Lustig’s contract expires at the end of the season, and the loan players who arrived in January will need to be replaced.
Therefore, Sutton is correct to say that any potential manager should get guarantees that the board will spend money.
Lennon will know that though. It will no doubt have played a part in any discussions that have taken place. All at Celtic know that ‘ten in a row’ is in sight.
A good summer transfer window could make that all but a formality.
