Some supporters of English Premier League outfit West Ham United are keen on the idea of signing Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer before October’s transfer deadline.

The Express reported at the end of last month that the Hammers were very keen on the Bhoys talent.

However, they appeared to move on to a new target with a pursuit for Wesley Fofana.

Now, Sky Sports have reported that they are again looking for alternative defensive options after their £23m bid for the Ligue 1 youngster was rejected by St. Etienne.

That’s led to fan speculation that the London club could reignite interest in Ajer, who is one of the players at Celtic with less than two years on his contract.

Rumours about an Ajer exit have been rife at the Scottish champions all summer long.

Sky Sports’ report that his agent had asked Celtic for his transfer valuation would appear to confirm the defender is seeking a Celtic Park escape route.

AC Milan have also been linked in recent weeks, though that interest appears to have cooled as they seek a loan signing.

Ajer, who signed for the club at the tail-end of Ronny Deila’s reign, hasn’t been at his best in the early stages of this season.

However, still just 22, he has a high potential and it would be no surprise to see him end up in one of Europe’s big leagues down the line.

Whether that’s this year or another remains to be seen.

West Ham fans certainly appear interested in signing the player, which is perhaps a sign his reputation is on the rise.
