The David Turnbull to Celtic transfer saga seems to have finally reached a conclusion, and it is not a positive one for the Hoops.
The move is off, as reported by the BBC, as the player needs knee surgery. It is unfortunate for both the player and the club.
However, Celtic must move on to new targets. One player they should rekindle their interest in is Fortuna Sittard’s Mark Diemers.
Hoops reportedly interested in player
Now that the Turnbull deal is off, Celtic will be on the lookout for a goalscoring midfielder. Diemers could be just the player.
He had a good record for his team last season. Diemers scored eight goals and had eight assists, as he helped his team avoid relegation.
Good record for a struggling team
That sort of return is good, especially when playing for a team that is struggling. If Diemers can replicate that form in Scotland, he would prove to be a very good signing.
Celtic will be looking to get any move for Turnbull’s replacement done as quickly as possible. Therefore, any move for Diemers should be made as soon as possible.
The loss of Turnbull is a blow to Celtic. The signing of Diemers would help to cushion that blow ahead of the new season.
