Celtic are closing in on a major signing if a report from French outlet L’Equipe is to be believed. They say that the Hoops are close to sealing a deal for the Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.
The 26-year-old centre-back, who stands at a massive 6ft 5in, is reportedly wanted by Neil Lennon after spending three seasons at the Ligue 1 side. He is under contract until the summer of 2021 and could cost Celtic between €8-10million.
The report claims that the move is close and that Jullien even visited Celtic Park recently.
Who is he?
At the age of 26, Jullien has already sampled life at three pretty big clubs. He started his professional career at French side Auxerre before moving to German outfit Freiburg in 2013. He featured just once for the Bundesliga side, playing mostly for their reserve team in the lower leagues of German football.
Jullien came back to France in 2016 to sign for Toulouse. He has since played 108 times for the Ligue 1 strugglers, netting eight goals.
He was also part of the France side that won the FIFA under-20 World Cup back in 2013. Jullien played alongside the likes of Paul Pogba and Florian Thauvin who have since gone on to play for the full team.
Will this happen?
Details are skill sketchy but L’Equipe are usually a reliable source when it comes to French football. France is a region that Celtic have shopped in regularly in recent seasons, so the rumour is hardly far fetched.
Hoops fans will be praying that the move is genuine. Even if not too much is known about the player, it would still be encouraging to know that the club is willing to spend massive amounts of money. It’s one to watch definitely.
