Celtic are in talks about signing a new centre-half, according to a report. The Daily Record is reporting that the Hoops have begun talks with Toulouse over Christopher Jullien.
The report goes on to claim that the Hoops have been quoted a figure of around £8 million for the player. However, that amount could increase.
There is also reported interest from clubs in England and Germany for the defender.
Statement of intent
Jullien was a first-team regular for Toulouse last season, making 35 appearances. Should the Hoops persuade Jullien to join the club, it would be a statement of intent ahead of next season.
It would show that the club is willing to spend big to get the players that they feel can improve the side. It would also show that the club have realised that a new centre-back should be top priority.
New centre-back is vital
With Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic gone from the club, it is vitally important that the club bring in another centre-back.
Should Jullien join, that could make him the number one defender at the club. You don’t spend at least £8 million on a defender to keep them on the bench.
Only time will tell if Celtic manage to pull off the singing. No matter the outcome though, it is good to know that the club are working early in the transfer market this summer.
