One of Celtic’s forgotten men, Cristian Gamboa, has been offered the chance to return to Costa Rica at the end of the season, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun has disclosed that Costa Rican side Deportiva Alajuelense has offered the player a deal. Gamboa’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he seems certain to be on the move.
Gamboa has rarely featured in his three seasons in Glasgow. This season he has made only seven appearances for the Hoops, with the last of those being in December.
When you consider the problems the Hoops have had at right-back it says a lot when you consider that Gamboa hasn’t featured.
Not suited to Scottish football
Maybe Gamboa wasn’t suited to Scottish football. Both Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon must have come to this conclusion.
Gamboa’s departure could well give Hoops youngster Anthony Ralston the chance to establish himself in the squad.
Chance to establish himself
Ralston looks set to be the only right-back guaranteed to be at the club next season. Gamboa looks set to leave, whilst there are doubts over the futures of Mikael Lustig and Jeremy Toljan.
The more right-backs depart the club, the more chance Ralston will have of becoming a regular in the first-team.
The right-back position is certainly something to worth keeping an eye on in the months to come at Celtic Park. Changes are afoot, beginning with the likely exit of Gamboa.
