Giorgos Giakoumakis will travel to Mexico for an Atlanta United medical and put the final touches to his transfer from Celtic, Fabrizio Romano has reported tonight.

The MLS side are visiting the country as part of pre-season preparations and the Greek striker is set to join up with the squad.

The Giakoumakis Celtic exit has felt like a long, drawn-out process but it appears there was never any doubt he would eventually sign for Atlanta once they reached an agreement with the Bhoys last week.

How much will Celtic get for Giorgos Giakoumakis?

Romano reports that he will sign a minimum three-year contract as one of Atlanta’s designated players, which means he can earn more wages and be signed for a larger fee than most Major League Soccer stars.

The transfer journalist believes Celtic will receive a fee in the region of £4.3m for his services. Sky Sports man Anthony Joseph reported earlier this week that kind of cash would be inclusive of £800,000 add-ons.

For someone who was so effective for the Bhoys, that will seem low to many fans, but it seems that is what the market topped out at for the Greek.

Ange Postecoglou has already moved on

The Celtic boss made it very clear in yesterday’s media conference that he had washed his hands of the player’s situation, telling journalists they may even find out more about the deal on Instagram than from him.

Hyeongyu Oh has arrived from South Korea and will now compete with Kyogo Furuhashi for that central attacking spot. He’s already making appearances from the bench as he works towards a start.

Giakoumakis made 57 appearances for the Bhoys, scoring 26 goals. He’ll be fondly remembered by supporters but a relentless Celtic now moves on without him.
