Read MoreReport: Multiple teams show interest in Celtic striker; club listening to offers
Celtic are listening to offers for attacker Jonathan Afolabi, Sky Sports have reported today. [08/01 live transfer page, 08:44]
Afolabi has been on loan at Ayr United this season making 16 appearances in all competitions. Unfortunately, he’s only managed to bag himself one goal.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international signed for Celtic in 2019 but has mainly spent time out on loan, also spending time at Dunfermline and Dundee over the last couple of years.
Afolabi hasn’t made impact at Celtic
He arrived with a bit of hype from the Southampton youth set-up but has failed to establish himself as someone capable of playing first-team football with the Bhoys.
His contract doesn’t expire until 2023, so any club interested will have to reach an agreement with Celtic first. This is not a pre-contract situation.
However, Sky Sports say teams in the English Championship, League One and abroad are all interested in his services.
“Ange is utterly obsessed with football” | Ryan McGowan on Postecoglou, Rogic & Celtic’s revival
Leaving Celtic could well be the best thing for his development given there is little chance of him making a breakthrough under Ange Postecoglou.
If Celtic can secure a deal with little upfront but a decent sell-on fee, that could be the best way this plays out for all parties.
Ayr United announced Afolabi would join on loan for the season in August. However, with new management, his future there is apparently uncertain. He wasn’t named in today’s match squad against Arbroath.
