St Johnstone are interested in signing a soon to be out-of-contract Celtic defender, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun are reporting that the Perth side are set to swoop for Celtic youth right-back Wallace Duffy. The defender’s contract expires ‘next month’. according to the report.
It is intriguing that the player has never managed to make the breakthrough to the Hoops first team.
When you consider how much difficulty the Hoops have had in finding a right-back it is a bit of a surprise that Wallace never made the first-team squad.
Real problem area
The Hoops have found the right-back position of the team a real problem area in recent times. The trio of Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Anthony Ralston have all played in the position.
By far the most successful has been Lustig. However, he has not signed a new deal with the Hoops and is free to talk to other clubs.
Set to move to Perth side
The fact that Duffy could be set to complete a move to another Premiership club shows that the player must have a fair bit of talent.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to make the breakthrough to the first-team ranks. The search for a solution to Celtic’s right-back woes is set to go on. But it doesn’t look like it will include Wallace Duffy.
