It looks as if Celtic are considering a move for a midfielder. The Daily Record is reporting that the Hoops are considering a move for Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers.
The report goes on to claim that it would cost up to £2.5 million to sign the player, but that Stoke are also interested. Intriguingly, the report also mentions that the Hoops first scouted the player back in 2015.
It makes sense that the Hoops want to add to their midfield following the collapse of the £3.25 million deal to take David Turnbull to Celtic.
Different type of players
However, it should be pointed out that the players are quite different. Sawyers is a more defensive player than Turnbull.
Indeed, in his 42 appearances for Brentford last season, he didn’t score any goals. However, he did chip in with seven assists.
Successor to Hoops’ captain?
Perhaps Celtic see Sawyer as more of a successor to Scott Brown than a Turnbull type player. Still, fans will be encouraged that Celtic seem determined to get as much transfer business done as possible before the new season starts.
Celtic have already made three signings this summer, and it doesn’t look like the Hoops are set to stop anytime soon.
It remains to be seen if Sawyers joins the Hoops. But it does seem likely that more signings will be made before the transfer window closes.
