Some recent comments made by Leicester City manager – and former Celtic boss – Brendan Rodgers seem to have all but ended the chances of Filip Benkovic returning to the Hoops for a second loan spell next season.

Rodgers lavished praise on the centre-back at a Q and A with Leicester fans, as cited by the Scottish Sun.

“He’s very imposing. At 6ft 4ins, he’s very dominant in both boxes. For 21-years-old, he’s very mature and very good on the ball” Rodgers reportedly said.

Rodgers was certainly a fan of Benkovic during his time as Celtic boss. He established the partnership of Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata that has been the foundation that Celtic have built their team on.

Inevitable that Rodgers will give player a chance

It seems inevitable that Rodgers will want to give the player the chance to make it in the Leicester first-team when he returns to the Premier League side at the end of the season.

Therefore, the chances of Benkovic returning to Celtic for another loan deal look to be slim at best. The only way it could happen would be if Leicester went and signed a few more centre-backs in the summer. That seems highly unlikely to happen though.

Celtic fans will need to enjoy what is left of Benkovic’s spell at the club, as it looks like it will be ending soon.
