It looks like the time has come for Celtic to bring a in new permanent right-back after some recent comments made by Mikael Lustig.

The Swedish international confirmed to Aftonbladet that he could be leaving the Hoops this summer. Therefore, a new right-back has to be a matter of urgency for the club.

The time is right for the Hoops to bid for Stephen O’Donnell of Kilmarnock. O’Donnell has become of the best right-backs in Scotland under Steve Clarke.

He has even broke through into the Scotland team, and didn’t disgrace himself when up against Belgium in what was a very tough game.

Interestingly, the player has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent times. He has described this as ‘flattering‘.

Situation must be resolved as soon as possible

That was before the Lustig situation occurred. Should Lustig indeed be on his way out of Celtic, then a right-back has to be signed as soon as possible.

The Hoops can’t go into the Champions League qualifiers with only one right-back – Anthony Ralston – on their books.

That would be putting far too much pressure on the player ahead of such big games. Neil Lennon and the rest of the Hoops staff know that players have to be brought in as soon as possible.

Recent events have shown that when it comes to signing a right-back, there is no time to lose.
