Celtic are showing interest in Bosnian international Sinisa Sanicanin, Romanian outlet Telekom Sport has reported this week.

Telekom Sport have been writing about the player in relation to a potential move to Romanian side U Craiova at the end of this season.

Sanicanin is currently at Serbian side FK Vojvodina but his deal there expires this summer.

That means he’s available on a pre-contract basis.

Telekom Sport report that he has become one of Celtic’s ‘main targets’ and that we are rivalling other clubs such as U Craiova, Besiktas and Galatasaray for his signature.

That puts us in some competitive company, to say the least.

He certainly has a profile worth exploring though, considering his availability.

Sanicanin is a left-footed centre-half who has made close to 130 appearances in the Serbian top-flight.

Now 25, he is developing into a regular, recognised international. He has won eight caps for Bosnia & Herzegovina, playing in all their matches between September and November last year.

It’s easy to see why Celtic would be interested in that profile.

We have an urgent need for centre-halves this summer after missing out on Ben Davies. Shane Duffy is due to return to Brighton and Kristoffer Ajer could be sold.

Bringing in an international player on the brink of bigger things would be pleasing.

Given the uncertain situation at Celtic right now, we shouldn’t be expecting big signings any time soon. However, Sanicanin is a name worth keeping an eye on over the next few months.

In other news, Celtic have created a more dangerous situation that heat-of-the-moment fan anger.
