Brendan Rodgers has a tough decision to make ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Valencia.

The manager must choose between record signing Odsonne Edouard and Oliver Burke, who has shone in recent weeks.

It’s a tough decision for the manager to make. Does he go with the tried and tested formula which secured European football after Christmas?

Or does he rely on current form? Celtic have been flying since the restart, it would be a risk to change the team.

Current form suggests that it would have to be Burke who gets the nod on Thursday night.

The winger turned striker has scored three goals since being loaned from West Brom at the start of January.

His best performance came in Sunday’s Scottish Cup demolition of St Johnstone.

He set up two goals in a selfless effort, playing the lone striker role to a tee. His all round play is getting better by the game and he deserves to start in the Europa League.

However, Rodgers may look upon Edouard to carry on his superb European campaign against Valencia.

Edouard has been Celtic’s focal point in attack this season in Europe. He has played the lone striker role brilliantly and has given Celtic a constant threat.

His sole striker performance against Leipzig gave Celtic a foundation in which their victory was built. He harried and harassed the defence all night long and got his reward with the winning goal.

He is Celtic’s record signing and was brought to the club for these moments. Edouard is still Celtic’s main man when it comes to strikers.

He has 14 goals to his name this season, which has been blighted by injuries at inopportune moments.

Despite this, Burke has taken his chance in the team. Celtic have not felt Edouard’s absence as badly as they would have had he been out the team before Christmas.

If its not broke, don’t fix it

Although Edouard has proven himself to be Celtic’s main man, especially in Europe, Rodgers shouldn’t risk the flow of the team.

Burke has slotted in well since he signed and has more than earned his start on Thursday night.

He has repaid Rodgers’ trust in him, and must be given a chance to do so again in the Europa League.

However, it’s not a decision any Celtic fan would take lightly. That’s why Rodgers is paid the big money.

If Celtic are to give themselves a chance in Valencia, Rodgers must get this decision right.
