It seems that Celtic are set to bring in a new right-back before the end of the transfer window.

Fussball Transfers reports that Celtic are close to doing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for right-back Jeremy Toljan.

Toljan’s arrival would mean there are now four right-backs at the club.

With Mikael Lustig still regularly playing, he would battle it out with Toljan for the starting berth.

That leaves Cristian Gamboa as the odd man out, surely meaning his time at the club is all but up.

Gamboa has never been a first-team regular since joining the club in August 2016.

He was brought in to provide competition for Lustig, but hasn’t managed to displace him.

Indeed, he has only really featured when the club has suffered an injury crisis.

Unfortunately for Gamboa, that has meant he has played in some truly heavy defeats in the Champions League, such as the 7-0 loss to Barcelona.

Having four right-backs on the books is a luxury few clubs can afford.

So it wouldn’t be a shock if the Celtic board were making moves to have Gamboa off the wage bill by the time the transfer window closes.
