Youssouf Mulumbu insists he still has a Celtic career despite being loaned out to Kilmarnock.

The midfielder only made three appearances since his free transfer in the summer.

Mulumbu was named man of the match in his first appearance since being back at Kilmarnock. The midfielder stood out in the Rugby Park club’s 0-0 draw with Rangers in the Scottish Cup.

Mulumbu told The Scotsman that he hasn’t given up on his Celtic future, despite being loaned out.

“In my head, it’s not over at Celtic. I’m a Bhoy!

“If you speak with Brendan and the lads, they know I want to go back and do great things for them.

The midfielder found life tough at Celtic, and never really got into his stride in the team.

With the emergence of Ryan Christie, Mulumbu found opportunities at the club few and far between.

With Brendan Rodgers insisting he needed games, the midfielder was loaned out to Kilmarnock, where he shone last year.

On Saturday, Mulumbu’s performance made it look like he had never left Killie in the first place. He was by far and away the best footballer on the park.

Loaned out to get game time

It is not impossible for Mulumbu to reignite his Celtic career when he returns in the summer.

He has not let himself down in a Celtic jersey, and is out of favour due to the success of others.

He was loaned out for the purpose to get game time and return in the summer and compete for his place.
