John Kennedy has incredibly moved to label Scott Brown’s Celtic display “excellent” last night despite a sub-par performance.
Brown was up against his future employers in the Dons, and it’s fair to say he flopped in the middle of the pitch. Consistently losing possession and being slack with his passing, Broony had another off-day.
Stat experts WhoScored gave him a full-time rating of 6.48/10. This was the third lowest of anyone in the starting XI – with only Jonjoe Kenny and Stephen Welsh given lesser rankings. He lost far too many individual duels throughout, and simply failed to dominate the game.
However, that’s not the way Kennedy viewed things. Instead, he believed Brown was clearly one of the best players on the park as he evidently watched a different game.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Kennedy said: “Scott was excellent. He is so fit and if there is a poster boy we can pin up as a role model, it’s him. He leads by example and he is so hungry to win, even against his future employers.”

Well, you can say goodbye to Ismaila Soro’s chances of starting at Ibrox then. In truth, it’s anyone’s guess as to what that guy needs to do to get some minutes at Parkhead. We’ll discuss that more later today.
But Brown’s Celtic displays are on the decline again. He was dreadful at Ibrox last Sunday and put in another poor performance here. Even if the Celtic captain was putting together a string of solid outings, it still wouldn’t justify his inclusion. The reason being that him playing from now until the end of the season benefits nobody.
These comments from Kennedy are effectively a way of setting Brown up to start next Sunday. Which there’s almost no denying he will do, because why not, eh?
It’s these kinds of decisions that have the Celtic supporters turning off the interim manager further. He isn’t making any fan-pleasing changes whatsoever, and that’s a problem both in terms of his reputation and the club’s benefit.
To actually come out and claim Brown was superb last night is an incredible observation. Perhaps even an incompetent one.
John simply isn’t helping himself. But make no mistake, that won’t change in 10 days when we travel to Govan. It’ll be the usual suspects playing – and that includes Brown.
