Club name
Celtic FC Women adopted their name from the men’s side of the club after being founded as Celtic Ladies Football Club. But the team is often only referred to as Celtic if not separated from the men’s team. The club is also often referred to as the women’s first-team within Celtic.
The women’s team are often referred to as the Ghirls, an adaptation of the Bhoys. Celtic include the ‘h’ in their nicknames for the phonetical Irish enunciation.

The women’s side did not fall within the Celtic Football Club operation until 2015 having been under the Celtic FC Foundation. Celtic’s girls academy is also now under the club’s oversight.
