£7m for David Turnbull is absolutely hilarious and Celtic will know that

The prospect of David Turnbull moving to Aston Villa is bad enough, but to do so for a comical £7million would be sheer daylight robbery.

The Scottish Sun reported just before the weekend that the former Motherwell starlet has been watched by the Premier League club. They claim that Villa boss Dean Smith has received a number of glowing reports on Turnbull.

Villa moved smartly to secure John McGinn from Hibs back in 2018. Since then, he’s been linked with £50million to the likes of Manchester United [The Sun]. Smith believes Turnbull would offer similar value for money, according to the report.

He’s right of course. But there’s a reason he would offer them major value for money – because £7m is an absolute snip and perhaps even an insult to Celtic.

Villa aren’t truly looking at his full potential here. Turnbull is off to the Euros with Scotland after a major breakthrough season with Celtic. He’s one of the players pinpointed to be the spine of our squad for next season. We have enough of an exodus ahead of us this summer and it’s important to distinguish that from a fire sale.

David Turnbull to Aston Villa? No chance

Celtic will eye Turnbull moving for £20m=plus in the coming years. However, it’s not even a discussion we can entertain for now – not with how important he is to the club ahead of next season.

The former Motherwell midfielder may even have an eye on England himself one day. But he’s yet to win anything with the Hoops. Yet to even taste a single league title or even a Glasgow Derby win. He hasn’t even played in front of a single Celtic supporter yet or experienced a European night at a packed Parkhead.

He has far too much to look forward to at Celtic for this to be taken seriously. Celtic will know fine well what a talent of Turnbull’s ability and potential can be worth. Hint hint, it’s nowhere near £7m. It’s in a different ballpark entirely.

No wonder then supporters have been left in hysterics at the prospect of such a measly fee being spent on David. It’s fair to say that it’s been met with widespread hilarity and disbelief.

Let’s take a look at Twitter to see how the Celtic fans have reacted to the news:
