Arsenal are unlikely to make a move for Celtic-linked Mat Ryan, according to the Sun.

Sky Sports reported on Sunday that new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou was keen to work with the Australia goalkeeper who he managed during his days as national team manager.

Ryan admitted nearly three weeks ago that he hoped Arsenal would be one of his options this summer [Fox Sports]. This came after he spent the second half of last season at the Emirates Stadium. During his time there, the Brighton stopper only played three times [Transfermarkt].

And now the Sun believes that Arsenal have turned their attentions to Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The United man could cost the Gunners as much as £20m, the report states. Therefore, a move for Ryan is said to be unlikely.

Removing Arsenal from the equation simplifies Celtic move for Ryan

Sky Sports said in their initial report that Ryan was looking for first-team football with his next move. So that already gave Celtic an advantage over the EPL outfit.

However, the attraction of the North London club is difficult to ignore. You can see why bagging another contract there holds such appeal for Ryan.

If they were to remove themselves from the running and look elsewhere, that’s a major plus for Celtic. Whilst there will still be interest elsewhere, it wouldn’t be at a club of the profile of Arsenal. So any drop-out from them in the bid to sign Ryan would be big for us.

That’s also, of course, should Postecoglou look to strengthen in that department. It could still be the case that the Greek-Australian sticks with Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain, and Conor Hazard. But with neither man convincing last season, there are no guarantees that will be the case.

If Celtic do want to move for the Brighton goalkeeper, however, we could do with moving quickly. We need our new number one in the door preferably before the Champions League qualifier against Mitdjylland.

Watch this space on Ryan. With his future up in the air, it’s anyone’s guess where he’s off to next.

In other news, the new FC Midtjylland manager has already been talking up Celtic.
