Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou delivers Greg Taylor injury update

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has delivered a Greg Taylor injury update as he confirmed the player could be missing from action until 2022.

Taylor has been out since a 3-0 home win against Ross County last month with a shoulder injury. It’s a setback that’s required the Scotland international to have surgery as a battle ensues to take his left-back spot.

The former Kilmarnock man had been Postecoglou’s first-choice left-back throughout the early stages of the season. However, it doesn’t look as though he’ll be able to call on him for some time yet.

That’s because Taylor is still a couple of months away from being able to return to action. As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Postecoglou said the following:

“Greg’s had an operation on his shoulder, it’s about four weeks since he started rehab so he’s still a good couple of months away.

“It’s a contact thing where we have to be careful.”

Greg Taylor injury opens up massive battle for Celtic left-back spot

So far, nobody has been able to step up and claim the left-back spot as their own. Regular minutes have been given to Adam Montgomery and Josip Juranovic. The likes of Boli Bolingoli and Liam Scales have also been given a couple of outings.

However, the fact is that nobody has managed to put themselves into a position where they can state that they’re the sure-fire number 1 choice. That’s disappointing to an extent, but considering all of them have been solid it continues to be an intriguing watch.

It’s disappointing to hear how long Taylor will still be out for though. Shoulder surgery was never going to see him back in the short-term, but there appears to be a strong chance he won’t feature whatsoever in 2021.

You have to wonder then what impact he’ll be able to make in the season as a whole. By 2022, we would hope to have a regular first-choice left-back nailed down in the position. Taylor is going to have to work hard for his spot back whenever he manages to return to the fold.

Of course, Celtic fans will just be hoping Greg recovers safely first and foremost. It’s imperative that the Hoops remain careful with this one and ensure the recovery goes smoothly. We don’t need any further setbacks here.

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan from here.

In other news, Celtic will only see the best of Josip Juranovic when he finally bags right-back spot
