Celtic have confirmed that they will indeed receive an allocation for the trip to Bayer Leverkusen on matchday 5 of the Europa League.
The Hoops supporters have been left highly frustrated this season when it comes to European away days. Local authorities in Andalusia banned Celtic fans from entering against Real Betis on matchday 1. It looks likely to be the same in Hungary this week when the Hoops head to Ferencvaros.
However, replying to a fan query earlier today, Celtic’s SLO confirmed the club will indeed get tickets for the trip to Germany:
This won’t come as too much of a surprise to Celtic supporters. Ferencvaros were granted an allocation for the BayArena on matchday 1 of the Europa League. Real Betis, meanwhile, will also take a contingent over to Germany this week.
The UK Vaccine Passport accreditation will now be accepted in the EU. This means Celtic fans should have no issue when it comes to getting into the stadium.
Celtic have missed out on 4 big away trips already this season. Midtjylland, Jablonec, AZ Alkmaar and Betis will likely be joined by Ferencvaros this week.
Celtic will need all the backing they can get at the BayArena
It’s ideal that the Hoops will have some form of backing in Germany. Given the difficulty of the situation at hand, we could certainly use all the support we can get.
Leverkusen may be going through a sticky spell domestically, but they’re looking in fine form on the European stage. We also can’t forget they bossed us 4-0 at Celtic Park only 5 weeks ago. They are jam-packed with quality and cut open our defence with ease in September.
So time will tell whether we’ve managed to improve at the back. The pressure we’ll come under in this one will be even more incessant than what we experienced at Celtic Park. Leverkusen likely won’t have wrapped up top spot by then either after their draw with Betis a fortnight ago.
They will still have work to do, meaning their support will be roaring them on to get the job done before matchday 6. Having an away allocation there will be vital to our chances on the night.
Celtic will take heart from the number of opportunities created against Leverkusen at Parkhead. However, in order for us to leave Germany with anything, a clinical edge is going to be just as vital as defensive solidity.
