Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou talked up the club’s values and traditions in a fascinating interview broadcast on Sky Sports Football this morning.
The interview, which took place earlier in the season, saw Ange provide an emotional tribute to his father as he outlined the challenges his family faced when he was a youngster.
Postecoglou has struck up a positive relationship with the Celtic support, with the fans taking to his humble nature and relating to his down-to-earth manner. With positive results also now flowing, the Postecoglou hype train is certainly going full steam ahead at the moment.
And as he got around to addressing his move to Celtic, he showed a deeper understanding of what our club stands for in some brilliant remarks.
Speaking via Sky Sports Football [02/01/22, 08:10], Ange said: “I’m well aware of Celtic’s background. I love the fact that it was built in a similar sort of light to the club that helped us as a famaily in Australia – South Melbourne Hellas. So those kinds of things are really important to me.
“The world moves on pretty quickly these days, but I just think there are values and traditions that should be maintained for generations to come. I love that this football club still holds onto those very dearly.
“I never had clear goals and dreams. What I wanted to do even as a young boy was just experience the stuff I watched on telly from the other side of the world in the middle of the night. To be sitting in the tunnel before a game and listening to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before we walk out at Celtic Park, it’s very hard for me to put into words.”

It’s remarks like these that make Postecoglou so cherished by Celtic supporters. He’s anything but an elitist and doesn’t view himself as above the status of the average football fan. In fact, he does his best to paint himself as on the exact same scale.
It’s that humility that makes him so difficult to dislike. So much so that even opposition fans must be taking to him. How can you honestly turn around and say that Ange is anything but likable? What Celtic fans would do just to sit with him for an hour and poke his brains about football.
And to say that fans are invested in his project isn’t just lip service either. After all, look at the Premiership table. Celtic are 6 points behind. It’s not cause for celebration, but the fact is that Hoops fans are seeing enough progress in the bigger picture to overlook that fact at the moment.
There’s an appreciation and an understanding that Ange is building something new at Celtic Park. A new team that’s going to take time to gel. Whether it takes a year for fans to see the Postecoglou revolution fully explode remains to be seen. But you get the feeling that supporters are willing to wait that long if it comes to it.
Because there’s a respect and a trust that’s been placed in Ange. He’s earned more than just the Celtic supporters’ patience. Indeed, with a combination of results and how he’s conducted himself, there’s a love brewing that’s only been strengthened with the winning of the Premier Sports Cup last month.
Hopefully, this is a project that ends with Celtic once again sitting as top dogs of Scotland. However, in the meantime, fans continue to admire Ange as he constantly impresses in front of the cameras.
