Hamilton Academical manager Stuart Taylor is refusing to rule out a move for Celtic midfielder Kerr McInroy.

McInroy is a man in-demand, with Airdrieonians keen to keep him for the rest of the season [Daily Record]. The player’s contract is up at the end of the season, but has yet to make a decision on either his short-term or long-term future.

A new contract at Celtic Park isn’t looking likely for the Lennoxtown academy graduate. With midfield competition through the roof at Parkhead, a move elsewhere looks like it would suit his needs best.

Championship club Hamilton have also been linked with a move for the player, and when asked about the speculation, their manager refused to rule it out.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Taylor said: “I won’t confirm or deny any speculation that’s going on. I’ve had names thrown at me last week, this week, there’s things going about on all sorts of sites. There’s nothing I can do about that.

“Sometimes people take a good guess, sometimes they don’t but I don’t like to go down the road or confirming or denying any names because players will think I’m trying to replace them. I’ve got a list of names in my room I’m looking at for this window and the next two windows, because I think having that strategy and that plan is really important.”

Kerr McInroy a man in-demand; Celtic stay looks illogical

McInroy is clearly taking his time over what he wants to do next. The prospect of heading to Airdrieonians doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon. So you can understand why the player may want to analyse all of his options first and foremost.

Whilst Airdrie are fighting away in 2nd in League One, Hamilton are currently battling it out a division higher in the Championship. They may be sitting in 6th place, but the prospect of reaching the playoffs is still a realistic goal.

Should he be given the offer to go to Accies and they manage to mount a late promotion charge, there’s every chance he could be playing Premiership football as soon as next season. That would be the dream scenario for him at this stage.

All that should be in Kerr’s thoughts at the moment is finding somewhere where he can comfortably play regular first-team football. Whether that be Hamilton or Airdrie, that’s the exposure he needs.

There’s now a realisation and acceptance that it won’t be coming at Celtic anytime soon. That’s not to say Kerr’s Parkhead dream won’t be achieved in the long run, but he’ll have to head elsewhere to bolster his reputation first and foremost.

Hopefully, we get some clarification on his future in the coming days. He certainly has some options available to him.
