The Australian media certainly weren’t holding back their opinions after watching Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic destroy Rangers at Parkhead last night.
The win was landmark result for Ange and perhaps even for aspiring Australian coaches around the world. Not only is Postecoglou making big waves as a manager in Europe, he’s potentially on course to bag his first title on the continent too.
Ever since Ange’s arrival, Celtic have had an increased interest from Oz. And that was certainly the case last night too as Postecoglou’s Bhoys ripped their rivals apart in a 45-minute period. The 3-0 success sees Celtic go top of the Premiership as the title-advantage swings firmly in our favour.

And it’s fair to say the media in Postecoglou’s homeland were certainly impressed too. Optus Sports produced a match report on the game, and they stated the following:
“This was a true Angeball masterclass. Celtic set the intensity of this contest and Rangers could not match them. Celtic Park heaved and revelled in the style their manager has implemented.
“With the eyes of the football world on the Old Firm derby, they were treated to a perfect advert for the virtues of Australia’s top managerial export.”
Celtic have Rangers where they want them as Ange continues to bolster Australian football
FTBL Australia stated after the game that “Ange Postecoglou’s side registered a decisive victory against cross-town rivals Rangers FC last night. 787 days. That is how long Hoops fans had to wait for Glasgow to be Green again. The win against Rangers was not only a possible title changing one, but also the first Old Firm win for newly appointed head coach Ange Postecoglou, in charge since the beginning of 2021-22.”
And there were also some positive comments from ABC Australia, who claimed that the win “sent a message, not just to the league but also to Europe, where Celtic has struggled in recent years.”
It truly was something beautiful to watch last night. Celtic have Rangers exactly where they want them – on the retreat. They’re now all over the place and the pressure really has been cranked up on our arch rivals.

The result is getting the attention it deserves back in Ange’s homeland. What he’s doing with this group of players shouldn’t be ignored or underestimated. It’s a turnaround that nobody envisioned back when the season got underway.
Now, of course, it’s all about kicking on. So often we see big derby wins be followed by an anti-climactic slip-up. Celtic will be at Fir Park on Sunday, and it’s essential we don’t fall into that trap if we really want to make the most of this.
It’ll be interesting to see how we respond to what we achieved last night. But one thing’s for certain, the Australian media have certainly been wowed by Ange’s Hoops.
