Dundee manager Mark McGhee has been left wowed by the treatment he received at Celtic Park in yesterday’s 3-2 defeat.
The new Dens Park boss was rushed in ahead of their trip to Glasgow’s East End yesterday. However, despite the fact he was only just in the door, they produced a fine fight on the day as it needed a late goal to overcome them.
Indeed, a Giorgos Giakoumakis hat-trick was enough to secure a big 3 points for Celtic. But we were made to work hard for the result right up until the final whistle.

And as McGhee reflected on his first experience of being back in football management, he took time to compliment Celtic for their warm hospitality.
As quoted by the Scotsman, he said: “I have to say that from the moment I got here Celtic have been brilliant. They provided me with a room downstairs I could go and sit privately during the period up to kick off. They had me a seat in the press box with a monitor and all of that, Celtic were absolutely brilliant. Very, very classy in terms of the way they helped me today.
“We were beaten by a better team. I also thought our performance was good, a lot of really encouraging things about it. Particularly, I expected that they would work hard, that they would roll their sleeves up and work for each other if not yet for us because we’re only just in the door.
“But I asked them to get the ball down at times and pass the ball. Have the bottle to do that here against a team who want to jump on to you. They did that and that was the most pleasing aspect for me.”
Celtic show their class to leave Dundee boss impressed
So evidently it was a day in which the club showed its class both on and off the pitch. It’s always nice to hear these behind-the-scenes favours the club carries out. To ensure McGhee wasn’t left wanting for anything says a lot about the classy nature of the football club.
Granted, perhaps there was a period in the final 5 minutes when we must’ve been regretting our hospitality. In all seriousness, this doesn’t surprise you. Celtic aren’t a petty football club. It shows the big-club mentality we have in that we ensured McGhee had everything he needed to carry out a professional job.

And it’s fair to say his Dundee side impressed. Battling for every ball and looking to get up the pitch on the counter when possible, they certainly were a threat. Definitely more of a threat than they were in our previous 2 meetings this season.
It was an important test that Celtic simply had to come through. If we hadn’t, then chances are we would’ve been ruing a major missed opportunity after Rangers’ draw at Tannadice.
But the bottom line is that the Hoops are finding ways to win games. The result marked our 10th consecutive win in all domestic competitions. There’s a consistency to this team at the moment that promises some huge success.
Hopefully, that’s something we can see through come May.
