Video: Hilarious clip emerges of Celtic boss getting his translator booked in Japan

An absolutely hilarious clip has emerged of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou getting his former translator yellow carded during his time with Yokohama Marinos.

Ange became an icon with Yokohama after leading them to the J League title in 2019. His popularity combined with Celtic’s success in the Japanese market this season has led to increased interest in the club on those shores.

Celtic fans have gotten to know Ange as a reserved character who doesn’t put much emphasis on refereeing decisions. But it appears that isn’t always the case. Back in March in a game against Tokushima Vortis, Ange was fuming to see his captain given a booking that somehow led to the translator picking up a booking. It’s resurfaced in an interview Ange carried out with The Front Bar, and you can see the incident for yourself below:

It’s absolutely brilliant. You wouldn’t have thought that a translator could receive a booking given he’s just passing the message. Goodness knows how Ange would’ve coped if he had been sent off!

Ange responded to the clip in a typically jovial fashion. And the truth is it didn’t matter either considering Ange’s team won the game thanks to a goal from current Celtic striker Daizen Maeda.

But it’s funny to see him a bit more passionate about decisions when he feels the situation merits it.

Ange yet to let Scottish referees feel his anger at Celtic

You have to say that Ange has managed the intensity levels and the blame culture of Scottish football absolutely brilliantly. He’s never pointed to anyone other than ourselves for our failures, whilst he’s never gotten embroiled in petty squabbling over decisions.

Let’s not pretend that he hasn’t had reason to either. On day 1 of the Premiership season, Liel Abada had a goal unfairly chopped off whilst Andy Halliday should’ve been red-carded for Hearts. We lost the game 2-1, and Ange wasn’t interested in pointing the finger at referees.

In truth, his demeanour showed up Steven Gerrard in particular – a manager who often liked to point to decisions when his team didn’t get the job done. It’s one of the things Celtic fans absolutely adore about Ange. He brings an element of class to the club that others don’t have.

There will undoubtedly come a day when the SFA officials feel Ange’s wrath. It’s only human nature for football fans and supporters to eventually let loose at some point.

But we’re now 8 games away from the end of Ange’s first ever Premiership campaign and he still doesn’t look like changing his ways or attitude anytime soon.

You simply have to respect that.
