Plenty of Celtic fans have been reacting to today’s report from the Daily Record regarding the club’s move for West Ham striker Albian Ajeti.

The Record has this morning reported that the Swiss striker will fly into Glasgow today for a tour of Parkhead and Lennoxtown. However, unlike the narrative in previous days, the Hoops’ focus has now reportedly turned to a permanent deal.

The report states that Celtic are close to completing a £5million deal for the former Basel star. Neil Lennon confirmed in his press conference yesterday that Ajeti hadn’t been in Glasgow previously. But that looks like it’s about to change over the next 12 hours.

And reacting to the news on social media, it’s fair to say some Celtic fans see it as a decent tonic in a so far gloomy week.

A deal that would add some positivity to Parkhead

Let’s not kid ourselves, we could do with a feel-good story. If Celtic are truly willing to splash out £5m on Ajeti, then that speaks well of the potential ambition of the club. It would also smack of an aggressive determination to get back rolling with real power in our ranks when we start playing again.

As for Ajeti’s goal record, you can spin it to fit whatever argument you want to put forward. 46 goals in 93 games for Basel reads like a goalscoring pedigree we can all get behind. However, you then have the 12 appearances at West Ham with not a single strike to his name (Transfermarkt).

Considering the quality of leagues, you have to be excited by the prospect of Ajeti joining. He’s already proven himself at a league similar to Scottish Premiership standard. Also, in fairness to him, of those 12 West Ham outings, only one of those occasions saw him get 45 minutes or more on the pitch (Transfermarkt).

Hopefully, some genuine progress is made on this deal today. It would also be interesting to know whether the recent Boli Bolingoli saga has led to Celtic being more ambitious in their approach for Ajeti.

Regardless, it’s a positive piece of news about the club. With a bit of luck, we can get this deal over the line.
