Sections of the Liverpool support are all for making a move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.

The Daily Star reported on Tuesday that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has identified Ajer as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren.

Ajer has been a mainstay under Neil Lennon since the current Hoops boss took the reigns back in February 2019. However, in the last two matches against KR Reykjavik and Dundee United, the Norwegian has been dropped to the bench.

Yet that hasn’t put off certain Premier League fans from wanting Ajer to make his way to Anfield. Here’s a look at some of the reaction from down south:

Ajer will have his price

Whilst it’s a campaign in which we should be looking to keep our best players, Ajer’s mistakes over the last 12 months will mean that he likely has his price for a sale this summer.

It was reported back in July that Celtic valued their Norwegian internaional at the sum of £20m (The Sun). That isn’t a surprise when you take into consideration he’s been one of our first-choice defenders over the last two-and-a-half years.

Whether Ajer would be good enough to play his part at Anfield is up for debate. He’s comfortable on the ball, strong when he wants to be, and has matured rapidly since he signed for the club back in 2016 under Ronny Deila.

However, he certainly has his downsides. At times he can be far too rash with his tackles, and has a tendancy to be bullied when he isn’t up for certain games. Carelessness on the ball can also creep into his game – so the Liverpool link certainly comes as a surprise.

Ajer has in the past stated that the Anfield club is who he supported as a youngster (Daily Record). He has also admitted that it would be his wish to play for Liverpool one day, so it would almost certainly be an offer that interests him.

It’s worth noting that the centre-back’s contract is also up in the summer of 2022 (Transfermarkt). With two years now remaining on his deal, now could be the time to cash in if the money is there.

In other news, Celtic boss Neil Lennon has stated that he hopes an internal club investigation will conclude imminently.
