Celtic youngster Scott Robertson has signed a new three-year contract with the club, tying himself to Parkhead until 2023.

The midfielder made his debut for the Hoops in a Europa League defeat to Cluj last season, and he impressed with his composure and accuracy on the ball.

Robertson has been with the club for over a decade after joining the Celtic Academy as a youngster, and was also a part of Neil Lennon’s pre-season training group back in July.

Speaking to the official Celtic website this afternoon, the youngster expressed his satisfaction at putting pen to paper.

“I’m happy. Happy to get the chance to try and break into the first-team over the next few years and, hopefully, show the fans what I’m about. This means over the next few years I can completely focus on playing football.

“It means a lot. It’s good to know that people around the club like what they’re seeing and, hopefully, I can keep impressing them.

“Every day I need to make sure I’m at it and show the coaching staff what I can do.”

Celtic fans pleased to see Robertson tied to the club

Robertson has already managed to make a competitive matchday squad this season after featuring on the bench at Rugby Park earlier this month.

However, his target will now surely be to get more minutes under his belt in what is already looking like a fierce battle for midfield spots at Parkhead.

Robertson is currently behind the likes of Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham, and likely David Turnbull in the pecking order. However, after featuring regularly in pre-season, Lennon has already shown that opportunities will be there for him if he impresses.

Then again, it may also be beneficial for him to notch a loan move elsewhere given the importance of the season ahead. It isn’t unfathomable to think that limited faith may be put on the youth players this term given what’s at stake. So there is also that route for Robertson if the club and player believe it’s the best form of action to take.

Regardless, the Celtic supporters were evidently pleased to see him tied down on a new long-term deal. Here’s a look at some of the early fan reaction to the announcement:
