The Daily Record has reported that Celtic are expecting a firm answer from health officials on Odsonne Edouard’s recovery process today.

Edouard tested positive for Covid whilst on international duty with France under-21s. Due to the French government guidelines, Edouard would normally have to self-isolate for seven days. However, under Scottish rules, the player must isolate for 10 before being allowed get back to some normality.

STV journalist Ronnie Charters tweeted yesterday that the player would be able to come back to Scotland on October 16th – a day before the Glasgow derby fixture against Rangers.

However, a report in the Record last night stated that the Hoops were still locked in talks with various health authorities late on Wednesday.

The Record also believes that Celtic are expecting a firm answer on where Edouard goes from here this morning.

It’s going to be tight regardless

It perhaps shows how hazy the rules are in Scotland/UK that nobody has been able to determine certain exactly what Edouard needs to do.

Because he’s a footballer, he would be exempt from having to quarantine upon any return from France. This is obviously the case considering so many players are away on international duty at the moment.

However, it’s still unclear as to whether he’s to follow French law/Scottish law, or even both. It wouldn’t make too much sense if someone was allowed to isolate for seven days and immediately come to Scotland after isolating for less time than the country allows.

It remains to be seen what Celtic are told from officials. But it seems most likely that Edouard will be in France for 10 days to follow Scottish Government procedure before being allowed back.

A club source told the Record: “We are hoping for good news where Odsonne’s return is concerned but there’s still some uncertainty despite claims he’ll be allowed to return after 10 days of quarantine.

“Unfortunately, the situation is still unclear at the moment while conversations continue.

“While we have been assured he will not have to self-isolate on his return to Scotland we are hoping for a definitive answer in the morning with regards when he will be allowed to travel back to Glasgow.”
