Odsonne Edouard urged to be more invested by Celtic fans; time for him to turn it on

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been urged by supporters to be more invested when he comes back to Parkhead after his stunning individual performance last night.

Edouard took his France under-21 goalscoring tally to 15 goals in 10 games – overtaking Moussa Dembele’s record as the under-21s top goalscorer.

His brace against Switzerland also ensured that they finished top of their Euro 2021 qualifying group after France won the contest 3-1 to wrap up their campaign. They’ll now set their sights on success at next year’s Euros.

But for Edouard’s immediate future, it’ll be straight back to Glasgow to try and secure 10-in-a-row with the Hoops and get his club career back on track.

The former PSG starlet has had a disappointing start to the season, scoring only one goal in his last seven Premiership games. Whilst Odsonne’s overall tally this season of eight direct goal contributions in 13 games looks eye-pleasing, his performances have been dreadful in recent weeks.

Neil Lennon has entrusted Edouard in games against Kilmarnock, Dundee United, Hibernian, St Mirren, and St Johnstone over the last couple of months, and he’s failed to find the net in all of them (Transfermarkt).

That’s floated the obvious question of whether he’s still interested in doing the business at Parkhead. Some will view his brace for France in a cynical fashion and wonder why he can’t repeat those same goalscoring exploits back in Scotland at a time when we need him most.

For me, I’ve never bought into this idea of players being no longer interested in playing for their clubs. Certainly not players who are in Edouard’s situation. He should be breaking his back to try and turn it on for Celtic both domestically and in Europe to try and push himself into the France senior side for the Euros.

And even if that’s overly-optimistic, a positive campaign with the Hoops this season would ensure that there’s no shortage of interest in him when the time comes for him to move on.

All we can do is hope that his brace for the France under-21s last night is the spark he needs to get himself back on fire and burn through Scottish Premiership defences once again.

But fans have been urging him to get his head back in the game after last night’s heroics as the Hoops support flocked to Edouard’s Monday night tweet:
