Mikey Johnston has been receiving praise for his big Celtic Scottish Cup contribution on Instagram.
Mikey has only been back for a couple of weeks after a long-term injury. However, already he’s been thrown into the first-team and is putting his own stamp on things.
Johnston came on against Hearts during extra-time and injected some much-needed freshness. Granted, it didn’t lead to a late winner, but he showed nerves of steel during the penalty shootout.
With Conor Hazard having just hauled Celtic level with a superb stop from Hearts’ Kingsley, there was immense pressure on Johnston to score. That he did too – beautifully nestling his pen into the bottom corner.
Celtic would go on to win the Scottish Cup for a fourth consecutive year. And as he enjoyed the post-match celebrations, Mikey put up some of the images on Instagram.
Celtic star receives plenty of praise
This post attracted plenty of reaction from both the Celtic supporters and others connected to the club.
Timo Weah, Luca Connell, and Andrew Gutman all fired their own comments in to Mikey. Timo in particular appears to have a good bond with Johnston – regularly replying to his successful Instagram posts.

There was plenty of love for Johnston from the general Celtic support too. A support that was keen to acknowledge the contribution he had made to the Hoops’ Scottish Cup success.
Had Mikey missed his penalty, it likely would’ve been over. Hazard did go on to save Craig Wighton’s penalty, but that could’ve changed. There would’ve been different pressures on the two players and things could’ve turned out differently.
When Mikey’s pen nestled in the corner, there was plenty of admiration for him. Had he missed, it would’ve been a horrible feeling for him. A potential morale-drainer. That’s not what someone just coming back from knee surgery needed.
