It appears that everyone has reacted differently to Neil Lennon’s post Rangers vs Celtic comments yesterday.
Lennon spoke to Celtic TV after the match at Ibrox in which the Hoops were dominant. The Parkhead boss made the point that he believed the Hoops to be “sharper, crisper, stronger, and quicker” than their foes.
Despite that, Celtic still slipped to a 1-0 defeat. How they managed it is anyone’s guess, but it happened. Nir Bitton’s red card certainly didn’t help, and that was another subject Lennon was keen to get fired into.
And it’s clear to see what approach Neil was trying to take. He was desperately trying to paint a picture of everything being on the up in Glasgow’s East End. That things were getting back to normal and we had found a system to beat Rangers.
He wasn’t wrong of course. We’ve certainly managed to find a new system that works for the players. As well as that, we seem to have found the personnel to take on Rangers more convincingly.
Do any of the Celtic positives matter anymore?
But none of that feels like it matters anymore. The reason? Celtic are 19 points behind Rangers. The 10 is more or less over barring a monumental collapse from our rivals. All of the positives we can take from the game yesterday feels trivial in the grand scheme.
For many, we needed this to happen in October. We had to find our rhythm before 2021 arrived. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case.
Unsurprisingly then, that’s what many fans are disappointed with. That was the idea for many heading into Saturday’s game. If Lennon didn’t win then he was gone in their eyes and there was no retrieving the situation. That’s regardless of whatever kind of performance we decided to put in.
But there are also some who are happy to look on the bright side. Those who believe that the overall display at Ibrox can bring about some real hope of success in this fixture between now and the end of the season. One last chance to fight back against our rivals in 2021.
It remains to be seen what section proves to be right. However, here, we take a look at the general fan reaction to Lennon’s post-match comments:
