Celtic fans discuss potential Lampard appointment after Chelsea sacking

Celtic supporters have today been discussing the prospect of appointing Frank Lampard after his sacking from Chelsea today.

Things haven’t worked out for the Stamford Bridge legend this season and ultimately he was given his P45. Lampard’s former side currently sit ninth in the Premier League. This comes after heavy summer investment in stars such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

It had been expected that Lampard was going to compete for the title with the London club this season. However, Chelsea currently find themselves 11 points off top spot having played two games less.

That seems to have been enough for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to pull the trigger. Chelsea have only won four of their last 11 matches.

Last season, Lampard’s first with the club, he guided Chelsea to fourth in an impressive debut campaign. He also reached the FA Cup final before losing to Arsenal. He managed this whilst pushing young talent such as Mason Mount and Reece James respectively.

Celtic fans not in agreement over Frank Lampard after Chelsea sacking

Given the situation at Parkhead, Celtic fans have consistently been talking about potential replacements for Neil Lennon. With the season all but over for the Hoops, many fans’ mindsets have pushed on to next year.

Unsurprisingly, given today’s developments, Lampard’s name was quickly discussed too. In fairness, there’s hardly a roaring approval for him to replace the current contingent. A lack of experience in winning things as a manager is likely a big stumbling block.

Lampard was previously with Derby County for a season before taking the Chelsea job. He led them to the playoff final, but couldn’t quite get over the line. In the Championship that year, Derby finished sixth – making the playoffs by a solitary point.

After two-and-a-half years in management, Lampard is still without a major trophy for his efforts. That would be a concern given his remit at Parkhead would be to win everything on offer from the word go.

Even so, it hasn’t stopped Hoops fans from discussing the prospect. With the likes of Eddie Howe and Rafa Benitez having been talked about enough, the supporters gave their verdict on whether Lampard could be a good fit:
