The Aberdeen fans were left to watch on as their team once again came away from Celtic Park with nothing last night.
Celtic were hardly at their best whilst the Dons created several opportunities to take a point. In the end, however, the Hoops managed to hold on and secure all three for themselves. The gap at the top of the Premiership is now 15 points.
For many of a Celtic persuasion, the highlight was undoubtedly David Turnbull’s superb 25-yard rocket. The former Motherwell midfielder was again the star of the show with a stunning match-winner.
However, you could be forgiven for ignoring the role Aberdeen had in the goal themselves. From a Celtic point of view, we were all fixated with Turnbull’s quality. And in fairness, it’s one heck of a goal with plenty of work needing done from David.
But one glance at the Dons defence would have you turning away in disgust. The build-up to the goal was incredibly simplistic.
Aberdeen fans right to be fuming with Celtic Park effort
Firstly, Bain plays a simple ball to the unmarked Callum McGregor. From there, this isn’t an Aberdeen player in sight as the Scotland international strode 40-50 yards up the pitch. He then plays it right to Turnbull, who again has nobody marking him. By the time the ball leaves his foot, the closest Dons defender is still between five and 10 yards away.
It’s criminal from their perspective. Knowing the quality Turnbull has when it comes to striking the ball, Aberdeen should’ve been warier. It is perhaps some of the worst pressing you’ll ever witness from a defensive side.

Of course, none of that will matter to Celtic. In truth, we needed Aberdeen to produce some sheer incompetence in order for us to get a goal last night. It was a dour performance from Neil Lennon’s side, albeit a win is a win.
But for McInnes, he’s now feeling the heat. Six games without a goal means the Dons set an unwanted club record last night. They also now claim a shocking run of only two wins in 12 fixtures.
And their supporters couldn’t believe the defensive shambles they witnessed for Turnbull’s effort last night. Here’s a look at what some of them are saying about it:
