It’s fair to say that the Tuesday night tweet from Celtic claiming that the club isn’t “half of anything” went down well with supporters.
Celtic fans have had to sit back over the last 48 hours and be tarred with the same brush as our Glasgow rivals. This comes after the Ibrox supporters shamelessly breached Covid protocols after winning the title.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon brought Celtic into the mix for some reason yesterday as she warned both clubs about mass gatherings [Scottish Sun]. That came after SNP MSP John Mason also tried to highlight Celtic when criticising Rangers [Glasgow Times].
Then we had the Rangers chairman, Douglas Park, send an absolutely outrageous letter to Sturgeon effectively claiming it wasn’t their fault [ITV]. He also referred to Celtic as “the other half” and tried to bring the Parkhead protests towards the end of 2020 into the equation.
So you could understand Celtic’s frustration. Once again our rivals simply couldn’t take responsibility for their own actions. There hasn’t been an apology for their lack of action over the weekend either. No explanation for why their players or managerial staff were urging them on over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
Rangers trying to bring Celtic into their own problems isn’t surprising
To then bring Celtic into things instead of owning up to their own fans’ scandalous behaviour doesn’t really surprise you. But the retort from the club does.
Yes, it’s close to season-ticket renewal time. Yes, it could be the case that the club are looking to bring some disillusioned fans back on board. But most of us are happy to just take it for what it is – a nice dig back at Rangers.

As you can expect, thousands of supporters flooded to the tweet to give their response. Again, as you can imagine, not all of them were from Celtic fans. Nope, our rivals believe they’ve broken us. Although if truth be told, you can’t actually have a dig at them at all or defend our own club without them claiming we’re all emotionally destroyed.
However, the tweet also attracted plenty of Hoops supporters. Plenty of fans who were just pleased to see the club finally stick up for itself.
