Stephen Glass has dropped a big hint on the potential appointment of Scott Brown at Aberdeen as he talked up the need to have winners around him.
Glass was officially appointed as the new manager of the Dons yesterday. It had also been reported before his appointment that Brown had made his decision to leave Celtic for Pittodrie. It’s a role that would see him become a player/assistant manager alongside Glass [Daily Record].
It was interesting to see that Brown wasn’t named in the official announcement alongside Glass. Indeed, the new Aberdeen manager’s assistant/coaching staff still hasn’t been revealed.
But when he discussed the type of players he wants around him, he very much spoke up the ideal candidate being someone of Brown’s stature and quality.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Glass said: “I think it’s hard to quantify how much that can help [having successful senior stars around]. If you get the right senior players at a club they drive everything for you. They look after the mentality of the young ones, they drive the demands in training.
“On the pitch if you’ve got a real leader in among the younger ones and maybe even the older ones who’ve maybe not felt that success or not had that belief you can notch things up a little more than what you’ve got.
“Senior players are really important and young players will respond to good senior players. So hopefully the ones that are there already will step up, I’m sure they will. Any we can add in will really add to the group and we will add the right types if we think they will add to the group. I’m sure they will.”
Stephen Glass would clearly love Brown at Aberdeen
It’s clear from these comments that Glass is certainly eyeing Brown. At the very least, they add weight to the report from yesterday on Brown’s future.
However, Scott will surely want to end his time at Parkhead on a high. He still has a contract at Celtic Park to see through before he takes on his next challenge.
In addition to that, he’ll surely be eyeing up Scottish Cup success to add to his Celtic collection. Especially given how disappointing the league campaign has been this year. Bowing out with a winner’s medal is exactly how this icon’s Celtic career should end.

Afterward, he’ll leave with Celtic fans’ best wishes. You can understand why he views this opportunity as a role that’s too hard to turn down. It’s a position of major authority and could offer him the chance of a fast-track route into management.
And, all things going well, it wouldn’t truly be goodbye for the Celtic support. Brown will almost certainly have major aspirations of one day becoming Hoops manager. In order to do that, he’ll have to cut his teeth elsewhere.
It looks certain that he’ll kick-start that road in the Granite City. And Glass’ comments yesterday don’t do anything to quell that theory.
In other news, we look at why Celtic should sign this nine-goal Championship starlet as a potential Odsonne Edouard replacement.
