Celtic FC Women made history last week after victories over KuPS and Lithuanian champions FC Gintra booked their place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying second round.

Elena Sadiku’s side emerged as 3-1 and 2-0 winners last week against the two teams in question, progressing to the second phase after coming through the four-team mini-tournament split.

The Scottish Women’s Premier League champions now have only one two-legged tie to overcome before the tournament reaches its group stage.

Having made great strides so far after last year’s heartbreak against Valerenga in Round One, here’s who the Ghirls will face in the next stage of the competition.

Celtic drawn against FC Vorskla Poltava

Earlier today, Celtic learned that Ukrainian champions FC Vorskla Poltava will be their opponents in the second round of the UWCL.

The first leg of the tie is set to take place on September 18th/19th. Meanwhile, the second instalment of the clash will take place on September 26th/27th [Sky Sports].

Celtic have never reached the group stage before and went into the draw unseeded. Their opponents come into the contest as reigning Ukrainian Women’s Professional Football League winners, forming one of the five league titles they have claimed since their formation.

Full fixture details remain to be confirmed ahead of the playoff, but Celtic know they will need to be at their best to see off Nataliya Zinchenko’s side.
