Celtic FC Women have returned to winning ways in the SWPL this afternoon, smashing Hearts 3-0 at K-Park.

The morale-boosting win was much needed after last week’s disappointing derby defeat against Glasgow City.

City remain five points ahead at the top of the table, but today’s result for Fran Alonso’s side ensures the gap does not grow.

Rivals Rangers play later this afternoon and this result puts pressure on them to win.

The top two teams in the SWPL qualify for the Champions League First Round next season and Celtic are well in the hunt, currently third.

Sarah Ewens was the star of the show today, netting two goals in the second half after Rachel Donaldson’s opener.

The poacher was an opportunistic force in the box and adds to her impressive goal tally for Celtic over the years.

She has a record better than a goal every other game and will be crucial to Celtic’s ambitions in the remaining league fixtures.

Today’s result is not the first big win over Hearts this season. Alonso’s side registered a mammoth 10-0 victory against them earlier in the campaign before the league was suspended.

Celtic will now take confidence into a difficult match-up away to Spartans next week. The Ghirls earned a narrow 1-0 win in the last meeting between the two sides.

In other news, David Turnbull is unfazed by the Rangers media hype.
